WHAT WILL WE DO ON JUNE 30TH?

That's right!

We played Central Park on June 30th and it was great! Bubbles, balloons, pom poms, kids dancing on stage and we even danced a conga through a tunnel of adults!

If you have pictures from the concert, please send them to us and we'll post them on our myspace page!

Music...outdoors...kids...dancing...NYC

Dear Diary:

Hey, why don't you rock out with us at Bleecker Park in NYC on Thursday? We're doing 2 free shows at 3 pm and then 4 pm as part of the MakeMusic NY! celebration. All around the world, musicians are holding free concerts for everyone in the streets on June 21st! Click the title of this post for details on MakeMusic NY!

Bleecker Park is located at 11th and Hudson Streets in the West Village.

On to other news...yesterday Racer Steve and I performed three concerts in 2 different hospitals for kids who aren't feeling so well. Believe me, they definitely felt a lot better after they were singing and shaking to the music. Music isn't medicine, but it sure acts like it sometimes!

They were really brave kids from the Hassenfeld Children's Center, Tisch and the Rusk Institute. We had such a great time because we could see how much fun they were having. The kids didn't know we were coming so the concerts were a surprise.

Hope to see you on Thursday! Off to Royal yoga!

ISN'T THIS BRILLIANT?

Dear Diary:

Hi! I'm proud to say that I know the people who started this organization. They're a young, very cool couple from NYC with two beautiful, healthy little girls who spend their time helping children who aren't fortunate enough to be blessed with perfect health. Good people, huh?

I've chosen to write about this organization for many reasons, but mainly because the idea for our band, Princess Katie & Racer Steve sprung up unexpectedly as a result of our volunteer visits to kids in hospitals. For several years now, Racer Steve and I have been making visits to kids in hospitals. Initially, we dressed up as popular TV and movie characters and now, because we wanted to start performing original music for them, we created own characters! So, you never know what can come out of doing something kind for someone else. I never, ever expected to be singing, never mind being in a band.

So, as a result, I know firsthand what a tremendous impact a little entertainment, especially music, is for sick children in hospitals. That's why we're so impressed with The Kids Rock Organization.

Please read what I've cut and pasted from their site and if you feel inspired, click on the title of this post and visit their site.

"The Kids Rock! hopes to make a small difference in the lives of uninsured children diagnosed with cancer by donating CD players and MP3 players through the clinics where they are treated. The medical world can treat their disease with the vast wealth of knowledge and dedication they selflessly give. We as musicians and music lovers can help make this tough experience a lot easier by giving them some entertainment while they go through the treatments. Something to take their minds off the Chemotherapy and Radiation, something to remind them they are still kids!

In the future The Kids Rock! hopes to take the fun to bigger places, such as free trips to concerts, meeting the performers and even buying instruments for the kids who dream of being stars themselves. The Kids Rock!"

Isn't this what life is about?

Help! I'm In Love With A Bandshell!

Dear Diary:

Okay, so maybe I'm not "in love" with the bandshell in Central Park, but I did LOVE playing it! Our concert today was FANTASTIC! To quote a mom, "The best yet!" These are the things that made today great:

***THE KIDS WERE SOOO CUTE! I mean, seriously. They were. No, really, I mean it. They were all dancing and playing with one another. They were sharing the soccer balls we threw out to the crowd, they shared the streamers. They looked so cute in their little spring clothes. Adorable.
***The weather was AMAZING. It was sunny and 75 degrees!
***The bandshell is in thee most incredible spot. Right near the fountain and surrounded by grass and trees, but with a huge space for dancing. I love New York City and I love this beautiful park.
***When you're in in the bandshell, you're way up high, so you can see the entire crowd (which was a big, big crowd) and watch everyone as they square-dance, rock out and act silly.

Thanks to everyone for coming and for waiting in the long line for autographs. I loved meeting all of you. Please keep checking our site for upcoming concerts. I have many that I have yet to post!

Thank you, NYC Parks Department for such a terrific honor.

Spare The Rock With A Cup and Top!

Dearest Darling Diary:

So, we left the Kingdom really, really early on Saturday morning and made our way to Northampton, MA! We were very excited to perform in a new space (Cup and Top) and chit-chat on the radio with Bill, Ella and Liam on the radio (Spare The Rock - www.sparetherock.com)!

After hanging out with Ella and Liam and watch them run up and down the halls of the radio show, we perched ourselves in front of the mics and sang some songs acoustically and answered some questions. We played, "It's Not Mine" because the Gooney Bird Kids love that song, "The Pillow" which is a new song that I wrote. It's a bossa nova and I looooove it...especially with the band because Super Chef Jeff is great with the rim shot (hitting the side of the drum with the stick) and "Tell The Truth" which is just a relaxing, sweet song to sing. Okay, so our music isn't exactly "relaxing" but that song is easy on the voice.

Bill, Ella and Liam were so friendly and such a really close family, it's nice to be around them. In fact, I found all of the parents to be very involved and interested in their children...what's more important?

After the radio show, we headed over to Cup and Top cafe where Helen and her crew were beyond welcoming and friendly. We had SO MUCH FUN. Everyone was in the mood to dance, the parents were smiling, the kids were dancing, the scones were being eaten and I just loved it. I've definitely found what I love to do in life - perform while watching kids have a great time! That, for me, is the ultimate.

I had some of the girls hold up the "Tell The Truth" sign, Persephone told me that Ringo was her favorite Beatle and Ella was her usual brilliant self, having an answer for every question I asked.

Thank you Northampton! Thank you Cup and Top! Thank you Spare The Rock for having us and putting this all together. It was a great invite.

OUR JEANS VIDEO IS UP - WATCH IT ON OUR SITE OR ON YOUTUBE http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C6QVryoQqxc
Leave a youtube comment if you love it!

Come see us Rock Central Park on Saturday - Central Park Band Shell 5/5 @ 1 pm (enter at 72nd Street - East Side).

Most Medievally yours,

Princess Katie

Oh, how I love a party!

Dear Diary:

Alright, so maybe it wasn't a party, but it was a concert that felt like a big party. The kids were going crazy dancing, the moms and dads were dancing, Racer Steve was going bananas on his guitar by running out and playing in the audience, Super Chef Jeff was a nut on the drums and Judo Champ Billy was playing his bass while dancing in the conga line!

I had recognized so many of our fans from our other concerts and loved watching them singing the words to our songs! The weather was so beautiful today and it was so great to see all the kids in their t-shirts and NO JACKETS!

Remember our next concert in NYC is going to be in Central Park on May 5th at 1pm. This weekend we'll be at the Spare The Rock radio show in Massachusetts and performing at the Cup & Top Cafe in Florence, MA.

Oh, by the way, we received such nice reviews today: http://www.theopinionatedparent.com/

Let's Help Protect All Children

Dear Diary:

I hope that there's a cause on this planet that everyone feels drawn towards. It can be saving the whales, protecting the environment or even keeping their local parks safe. Well, I've always been drawn towards the protection of kids and the great thing is, I'm not alone. There's a fantastic organization that the band and I did several shows for this past holiday season, Safe Horizon (www.safehorizon.org).

The great thing about Safe Horizon is that it helps to educate people on the signs of child abuse and how to take action. Sure, it's something no one likes to think about, but my feeling has always been that if I'm part of the solution, I worry less about the problem. Safe Horizon also does so much more! They work with young women, teens and children and provide critical information about lifesaving resources and services available to victims.

How cool would it be if we could stop all kinds of abuse towards children and help the children who have been abused get help and lead healthy, happy lives?

I commend Safe Horizon for their work and hope that the information here inspires someone else to help.

With love,

Princess Katie

Boy, was that ever FUN!

Dear Diary: Today was our April Fools' For Kids Who Are Cool Concert and it was F-U-N! All of the kids got dressed in costumes...I can't even begin to tell you how many princesses and cool kids there were! I thought New York City was full of people wearing jeans and sneakers and here is everyone in tiaras and costumes! I guess I was wrong.

Well, Racer Steve really rocked on the guitar. Super Chef Jeff was playing those drums like crazy and Judo Champ Billy really went bananas on the bass! What a great bunch of musicians and they're also really nice...and funny!

The kids were dancing, singing, laughing, clapping, shaking maracas, wearing cowboy hats. There was also a little girl dressed as a cute Indian girl with beautiful braids, a cheerleader (whose birthday we celebrated) and an M&M! I love costumes...it's fun to be someone else for the day.

At the end of the concert, Racer Richie and Racer Jake gave me beautiful, beautiful roses on stage. They were also wearing cool PKRS t-shirts and knew all the words to the songs.

I wore a very cool new gown that Princess Pauline made for me, by hand. She makes all of my dresses and is very, very talented.

Stay cute!

Great Advice From Buddha!

Hey Racers and Princesses:

I found this great quote on a magnet (I even bought it for my Royal Kitchen):

believe nothing,
no matter where you read it
or who has said it,
not even if I have said it
unless it agrees with your own reason
and your own common sense.

-buddha

What great advice. So, in the future if someone puts you down or says negative things about you - remember who you are and let it just slide right off. Think about it...if they were really happy, would they really spend their time being critical and mean? Just look at them and smile.

You are perfect the way you are...says me!

I love the Earth.

Dear Diary:

There's been so much talk lately about the Earth and how we need to start taking better care of it. The truth is, whenever we don't take care of things, they fall apart. I think of my bike. If I leave it out in the rain, never clean it off and never fill the tires with air, it's not going to last very long.

Well, it's the same thing with the earth. So, I decided to look up on my computer and find out some of the ways I can help care for the Earth and from my reading, this is what I've decided I am going to do:

1. I'm turning off my computer, TV and lights when I am finished with them. This helps save energy.
2. I'm not keeping the water running when I'm not using it. I'm also taking shorter showers.
3. I make sure my dishwasher is totally full so that I don't waste water doing several loads.
4. When I go to the market, I bring a cart on wheels. I wheel it through the store, put my items in it and then when I pay for them, I don't need to use any paper or plastic bags. Then I just wheel the cart into the castle and voila! No waste!
5. I recycle plastic, paper, glass and metal. It's fun knowing that these items will be used again.
6. Although I live surrounded by a forest, you can never have enough trees. Trees suck up the bad air and create good, clean air for us to breathe...isn't that cool? So, whenever I get the chance, I plant a tree. It's also a lot of fun to watch it grow.

There's a lot of other ways for us to take care of the Earth, but these are just a few great ones that kids can do with their families.

Thanks for reading and keep rocking royally!
