Chattanooga Parent on TINY COOL

"Princess Katie & Racer Steve (husband and wife duo Katie and Steve Borne) unleash their third album of rockin’ tunes for the whole family. Tiny Cool is packed with 11 songs and three skits. The music is pop goodness at its best, but don’t think this is bubblegum pop. (Listen to the song “Kids Rock!”, and you’ll see what I mean.) Then there’s “Tube Sox”—not since Julie Andrews belted out her laundry list has there been such a great musical description of someone’s favorite things. Possibly my favorite track on the disc is “Honest Kid”; try to imagine a musical mash-up of The Supremes’ “You Can’t Hurry Love” and The Jam’s “A Town Called Malice.” Princess Katie & Racer Steve are now three for three with Tiny Cool, but I’ll have to say that the title doesn’t do this album justice. Tiny Cool isn’t just cool, it’s amazingly cool. - Dave Loftin of the Saturday Morning Cereal Bowl"

Grab your kid and a cup of coffee and tune in to the “Saturday Morning Cereal Bowl,” hosted by Dave Loftin, Saturdays from 8 to 10 a.m. on the Web at WAWL.org. He posts his weekly playlists on SMCB.BlogSpot.com. And now you can take your Cereal Bowl with you—in podcast form! Go to SaturdayCerealBowl.podbean.com or simply search the iTunes store. Don’t worry, parents, it’s free. Music for kids and their parents By Dave Loftin

AOL: Princess Katie & Racer Steve: Kids' Music Parents Love

Children love repetition. They'll read the same books, watch the same movies, and listen to the same song over and over and over again, as many times as their parents will allow. And some of the stuff kids love is absolutely insufferable -- but you play it for them anyway, because you love them and it makes them happy.

If you're one Barney singalong away from losing your mind, it's time to get to know
Princess Katie & Racer Steve. The duo is a wonderful breath of fresh air in the world of children's entertainment.

Princess Katie & Racer Steve Album ArtThe couple got their start as a band when Katie enlisted Steve to perform with her in New York hospitals and events for at-risk kids. Though they'd never been songwriters, those kids inspired the duo to create something spectacular.

When you put Princess Katie & Racer Steve's
Songs for the Coolest Kids or Fast & Feisty in your CD player, you won't hear the usual high-pitched vocals and circus soundtrack noise that you find on most kids' albums. Princess Katie sings in an actual human voice -- often compared to Natalie Merchant -- while husband Racer Steve rocks a guitar like the big boys. Princess Katie & Racer Steve are far more than simply bearable for parents -- you'll probably love them as much as your kids do.

Repetition is no problem with the Princess Katie & Racer Steve albums, because each album offers up a great mix of different styles, including country, rock, rap, jazz, and Latin-inspired tunes. The sound is hip and mature, and the lyrics are packed with positive messages for kids. Princess Katie & Racer Steve's songs encourage kids to use their imaginations, always try their hardest, be kind and keep a positive attitude.

The Princess Katie & Racer Steve live show is an experience that children and parents alike will enjoy -- a high energy, family-friendly rock and roll show. The band will be on tour in early 2010 to promote their upcoming album,
Tiny Cool, scheduled for a February 16 release. Here's a list of confirmed tour dates -- see if Katie & Steve are coming to your town:

- January 17th at the Providence PAC in Providence, RI
- February 6th at the Durham Performing Arts Center in Durham, NC
- February 18th at the Stocker Center in Elyria, Ohio
- February 20th at the Pasant Theater in East Lansing, MI
- February 21st at the Music Hall in Detroit, MI
- February 27th at the Moore Theater in Seattle, WA
- March 20th at the Lebanon Opera House in Lebanon, NH

If you can't get to one of these shows, you can still enjoy the live Princess Katie & Racer Steve experience with their live concert DVD,
Revved Up and Ready to Rock! These albums and this DVD will make a great gift for any family. Don't forget to check back in February for Tiny Cool.

PRINCESS KATIE & RACER STEVE EMAIL LIST

We had, as Space put it, "a blast" in Michigan and Colorado this past weekend. Thank you to all the new fans for coming out to dance in the aisles (and on the stage in many cases).  We enjoyed watching you do the Air Guitar to Racer Steve's playing and I thank you for all of the little necklaces and homemade gifts bestowed upon me after the shows.

If you wish to be a part of our email list as many parents asked, you may click the envelope on the homepage of our site and we will be sure to add you to our list: www.princessracer.com

We are hard at work booking shows for Spring/Summer '09 and have a sampling on the bar to your right.

Please feel free to send us any picture you have from shows - we'll be happy to post them somewhere - Myspace, Facebook or maybe even on this blog!

Don't stop, continue to rock,

Princess Katie

The Obama - Princess Katie Ticket? Almost, but not quite.

It's true.  Obama asked.  I painfully declined.

"C'mon, Princess Katie," he begged, "being my running mate would be so exciting!  You'll get to see new places, make the world a better place, inspire people...oh, and they'll still be lots of kids surrounding you.   You'll love it."  I could not be swayed.   His attempt to convince me went on for hours and hours and I remember him using the word "change" often.  "You'll get to make a lot of change." "They'll be plenty of change."  I finally had to tell him that I am not motivated by money.  He looked at me strangely, then dropped the subject.

I knew he was desperate when he sent me this "unstaged" picture of two amazingly cute kids. "See, don't we look cute? Don't you think America will feel hopeful?  We're both cartoons! Everyone loves cartoons, right?"  I put my head down and shaking it back and forth said, "B (I call him "B" - we're tight) first of all, you're not really a cartoon here.   You're cartoon-ish, cartoon-like, maybe even cartoon 'lite.'  Secondly, I just think I need to be singing my songs, remaining a little kiddie rocker, making kids happy.  Joe's your man.  He's a good egg and appears to really be into the whole 'suit and tie/Senate thing.'"  After some thought, Obama agreed.   I went on to tell him that Joe would also most likely be taken a lot more seriously considering he wouldn't be wearing a tiara and hoop skirt and breaking into an acapella version of "Tell The Truth" at confirmation hearings whenever someone was being a little less than forthcoming with information.

Yeah, sure, I was going to try to pass a bill for 5-day weekends, choose an all-kid Cabinet, install strobe lights, a disco ball and confetti launchers in the Oval office and change the handshake to a high-five, but you know what, I'd rather just stick to what I do and watch this new Administration lead like Lincoln on its own.

So, that's my story.  I'm really happy with my decision as I am incredibly proud of my new President and Vice-President.  This country is just fantastic and I feel hopeful that we'll become more of the America that I love: the America that helps other countries in need, the superpower that is truly super and the country that is respected and adored by all others for it's good work.  I look forward to watching this country make taking care of all children a top priority.*

*Disclaimer:  Uh, some of the information regarding "B" and I has been embellished to move the story forward.  Not much, but some.

**This picture was sent to me by a uber-cool dad yesterday.  It is actually an unstaged picture.  My heart melted.  When I looked closer and noticed the little boy was holding a copy of Fast & Feisty, it melted again.  Had to post.  Thanks to the parents for sharing it.

Happy Holidays From Princess Katie & Racer Steve!

Let's be totally honest here:  kids are, by far, the best thing roaming this planet (everyone is entitled to their own opinion, right?)  Their positivity and desire to seek out happiness comes naturally to them and it's incredible to be around them and bask in their sparkly glow.

That said, we hope you enjoy every second of seeing your children happy as they run around holiday parties, open presents and soak up every compliment from family and friends telling them undeniably adorable they are.

So enjoy whatever you celebrate and let's wish for a much-needed peaceful 2009.

Thank you for playing our music and videos in your home/car...over and over and over and over...

Covering the castle with lights, we remain,

Princess Katie & Racer Steve

Princess Katie & Racer Steve Berrie Pick Review of Fast & Feisty

If there's one thing I'm learning since starting this blog it's that kid music totally rocks these days.  No more Barney (ughh....) cuz now it's time for Princess Katie & Racer Steve!

The husband and wife team's CD, "Fast and Feisty," was released in April, and has been playing in a regular rotation in my home since I discovered it still in the package it was mailed in just a few weeks ago. (Bad blogger, Bad!)  But back to "Fast and Feisty" and the Princess and the Racer.

First off, the CD could suck and the lyrics could drive parents to the brink of insanity, and we'd probably still allow our kids to bop incessantly to the music of their biggest play-date fantasies. I mean, come on!  What little girl hasn't wanted to be a princess at least once in her life?  And what little boy (or girl) hasn't gotten a thrill pretending to GO FAST like the cool race car drivers?

The added bonus, of course, is that Princess Katie & Racer Steve are a serious rock-n-roll band with the musical talent to match.  Katie's got a decidedly adult-sounding singing voice that adds a classy touch to the kiddie lyrics, and even if Buttercup is too young to appreciate the fact that Racer Steve is a master on that guitar of his, I'm not.

My faves on the track include "Holidays," "Sneakers," and "We Dress Ourselves," the last of which will have you singing along at the top of your lungs before you realize that the driver in the car next to you at that red light thinks you have officially lost your mind.

Princess Katie's New Assistant, West Ginger Liberty!

Well, things have been very, very busy here in the Kingdom.  Between local uprisings, festivals, Kings being overthrown and loose unicorns, I can't seem to keep up.  So, I hired an assistant.

Her name is West Ginger Liberty and if you made it to the DVD shoot, you saw her (and if you hung around, you met her).

She's thee best!  Honestly!  I just love her and hope to bring her to some future shows.  She'll be on the DVD and at upcoming performances!  Also, she may be doing some blogging for me from time to time.

So, now you know her and can scream, "Hey there, West!" when you see her.  She LOVES being recognized in public.  Oh, some other info about her:  she's a Virgo, loves brown rice, a good joke, babies & kids, can be a bit frazzled at times (pretty often, actually) and loves dancing!

More news soon.  Thank you for coming out, Philly!  You were very charming!
